In presenting a' Flora of Lanarkshire to the public, it may be proper to state, that the present volume contains the Phenogamous or ﬂowering plants only, i. E. Those which are comprehended under the twenty-three first classes of the Linnean system and, which constitute a large preportion of the whole vegetable productions of the county. The Cryptogamous plants, namely, the ferns, mosses, lichens, mushrooms &c., are reserved for a second volume.
